For the Bees – We Are Saving Bees
Are bees really on the verge of extinction? And if so, why is their problem our problem? Albert Einstein, one of the greatest minds in the history of science, once said: “If the bee disappeared off the face of the Earth, man would only have four years left to live. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man…” These words seem more prophetic now than ever before, as recent years have brought alarming news regarding bee populations, and the problem of these insects dying out is becoming increasingly urgent. So what can we do for these little hardworking creatures? What is Mix Me doing for them?

Bees – Key to the Ecosystem
Why are bees important? Bees play a key role in our ecosystem. Working tirelessly, they pollinate over 75% of plants worldwide. In Europe, their work is invaluable as they help pollinate as many as 4,000 different varieties of vegetables and fruits. It is estimated that we owe every third spoonful of our food to the work of bees.
Without bees, global food production would be significantly limited. Products such as fruits, vegetables, spices, and herbs – all of this is largely the result of their irreplaceable effort. However, in the face of the growing problem of bee extinction, we must ask ourselves what will happen if we do not take urgent action.
Bee Extinction – A Global Problem
Unfortunately, bees are among the creatures threatened with extinction. The decline of the bee population is a global problem. According to educational materials from the ‘Bee Informed Partnership,’ their research shows that American beekeepers lost 43.7% of honey bee colonies between April 2019 and April 2020. In some regions of the world, e.g., Sichuan in China, fruit trees have been hand-pollinated by farmers for many years because bees have died out, and those that remain stay away from fruit areas. The situation is no better in Europe, where a decline in bee numbers is also recorded. The causes of bee population extinction are complex and include many reasons, such as exposure to pesticides, habitat loss, climate change, and a multitude of diseases. Among the main suspects are commonly used insecticides based on nicotine-like compounds called neonicotinoids, which have been sprayed on crop fields in both the United States and Europe since the 1980s. Unfortunately, there are many causes, and many of them we cannot stop, but the fact is that all of this can lead to a crisis that may bring serious negative consequences for us and the health of the natural environment. And even if many breeding apiaries are established and food is produced, there is a fear that in a few decades, fruit will not appear on the trees in our own backyards.
